Summary "More than sixty-five years ago, in 1927-1928, soon after graduation, Geneva Seybold and Josephine Chase, who had been college roommates, made a trip around the world. Each had fifteen hundred dollars, which they wanted to last for a year. They would have to travel inexpensively to make that reach. With knapsacks on their backs they walked in England, France and Spain, but found hiking impractical in Africa, India and China. There, they traveled by native bus and ... railroads. When they reached San Francisco (where they were met by relatives) a year after sailing from New York on a freighter, Jo had fifty cents left, and Geneva had a dime."--Publisher note.
