Summary |
In a science-fiction future, robots have become autonomous "cyber-persons," with artificially intelligent brains, and are a full part of a human society, even developing their own culture. In the early twenty-first century, a nuclear reactor melts down, and one such robo sapien is tasked with patrolling the quarantined facility until the radiation levels drop to safe levels for both humans and robots. Thirty thousand years pass, robo sapiens evolve and become more and more complex, but humanity regresses--or at least, by robot standards they do. In the end, the most important mission for the patrolling robot is to find happiness. |
