History -- Conflict trends in Northeast Kenya -- Concepts and terms -- Community structure, clan conflict, and violent extremism -- Conclusions and recommendations.
Summary
"The northeast region of Kenya, which borders Somalia, has seen a spike in clan-based conflict and violent extremist activities since 2011. This trend is well illustrated by the eruption of violence in Mandera County from 2012 to 2014 and by the April 2015 attack on university students in Garissa County. This report, which is derived from interviews across the three counties in Kenya's northeast, explores the relationships between resilience and risk to clan violence and to violent extremism in the region"--Publisher description.
