Summary Lizzy lives a quiet life on the archipelago Shui Jing with her grandfather, where she sells their goat's milk to local villagers and avoids the monsters that come out in the evening's fog, especially the Leviathan. When she steals money from a local wishing well to pay her fare home from the market one day, she winds up in a host of trouble. She must fulfill the three wishes of the coins she stole, or the well will drown her in its depths. What begins as a quest to save her life, brings her face-to-face with monsters, the burgeoning magic within her, and the truth of what happened to her parents.
