Summary By 1700, the slave trade was a vital component of the American Colonies' economy. Ships plied the Atlantic with "black gold". One such vessel was the Henrietta Marie, which was returning from an eventful, 8,000-mile journey in July 1700 when it sank off Florida. This program reveals how a portion of the Marie was discovered, almost by accident, in 1972, and visits the site where thousands of artifacts have been found. Then, we'll join the search for the main body of the wreck, conducted off Key West during the summer of 2003.
