Calvin in the comic strip "Calvin and Hobbs" is concerned because the nights are getting longer, the days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder which obviously means that the sun is cooling down and the world will soon come to an end! There are many people who seem to have adopted that philosophy, that as that as (sic) their eyes dim with darkness and they must keep a shawl around their shoulders to keep in the warmth, that life is over.
