Summary |
Documentary. Describes the San Francisco earthquate of Apr. 18, 1906, which opened up a 270-mile fissure along the San Andreas fault and caused three days of fires that virtually destroyed the city. The city was rebuilt but suffered from many of the same weaknesses as the demolished boom-town. Through computer modeling and other techniques, shows the likely results if a quake of similar strength were to strike now--billions of dollars in damages, collapsed buildings and bridges, and casualties running into the tens of thousands. |
