It was with no relish that the Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources undertook the task of changing the student loan program this week in order to produce savings that will allow the federal government to balance its budget by the year 2002. I would like to comment on this effort and clarify some inaccurate characterizations which have been made in recent days regarding the effort on changes of the student.
