Inscription written by hand on leaf preceding title page: Sylvayn's Orator[.] This curious volume contains the original story from whence Shakspeare [sic] took the character of Shylock the Jew, & the incident of the bond [...]. At p. 400 is the story "Of a Jew who would for his debt have a pound of the flesh of a Christian", [i.e. "Of a Jew who would have a pound of a Christian's flesh for his debt."]...Sold in Bindley's sale for L. 6.12.
