Summary The use of smartphones as analytical detectors has emerged as a new trend in the chemical analysis field, providing several unprecedented characteristics such as geolocalized semiquantitative results at the point of need combined with real-time communication. Integrating smartphones into chemical analysis tools has been a challenging task requiring multidisciplinary expertise. This volume comprehensively discusses and highlights all the parts necessary to turn a smartphone from a daily-life gadget to a portable, cost-efficient, connected, and robust apparatus for chemical analyses, covering trace-level small molecule and protein detection and discussing a range of applications such as environmental monitoring and detection of food contaminants. To achieve this, experts in these fields have contributed 11 chapters focusing on different aspects, covering a wide range of theoretical aspects and real-life application of smartphone-based assays--pg. xv.
