Summary Neuropathic pain (NP) affects large populations worldwide determining increased direct and indirect costs and significantly alters the patients' quality of life and psychological morbidity. Neuropathic pain is defined according to the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) as "pain caused by a lesion or disease of the somatosensory system" although many studies in human and animal models have proved that neuroplastic changes in non-sensory structures may also contribute to NP mechanisms. This book discusses non-invasive brain stimulation to control neuropathic pain. It also discusses neuropathic pain in patients with spinal cord injury and the new management strategies for these individuals. -- Source other than Library of Congress
