"From 1657 to his death Sebastian Knüpfer (1633-1676) was one of the most distinguished predecessors of J. S. Bach in the office of Cantor at the Leipzig Thomaskirche. Of his mostly sacred output, Knüpfer's Lustige Madrigalien und Canzonetten stands out for its overtly secular content. The verses range from refined to coarsely erotic and reflect the kind of music students sang at the time. This is the first modern edition of this collection, which has been available up to now in the original 1663 print." -- Provided by publisher. |
