| Summary |
Professor Emmanuel Rath, a middle aged schoolmaster, becomes infatuated with, and later marries, Lola-Lola, a singer at a sleazy cafe. He is increasingly degraded by her and when she leaves him for another man, he returns to his school a broken old man and dies. |
