In the third installment of the Codex Alera series, Gaius, First Lord of Alera, has recovered from a brutal attack and now seeks the destruction of those who are responsible for his injury. As he plots his revenge, Tavi is sent off to legionary training. Making matters worse for Gaius is the fact that one of his targets has taken members of his support staff hostage, denying him much backup.
