First performed Dorset Garden 1673; probably performed at court 1671. cf. Cambridge bibliography of English literature.
A sequel entitled "The heir of Morocco" appeared in 1694.
The frontispiece portrays the facade of Dorset Garden theater. The play is said to be the first play ever published with engravings. cf. Dictionary of national biography.
