|
A continuation of the Canterbury tales, "obviously by a later hand," first printed by Urry in the 1721 Chaucer, as the "Merchant's second tale," and included in several later editions; but from the first generally regarded as spurious. The tale is identical with the first part of a French prose romance: L'histoire du chavalier Berinus. The English abstract of the original has title: The merchant and the rogues. It is a free translation from the abstract by Bricaire de la Dixmerie in "Melanges tires d'une grande bibliotheque," Paris, t. VIII, p. 225-227. |
