Summary The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture presents a July 1999 fact sheet entitled "Cleanliness Helps Prevent Foodborne Illness," as part of the "Food Safety Features" series. The fact sheet contains guidelines for safe food handling and notes that food that is mishandled can lead to foodborne illness. The FSIS notes that cleanliness is a major factor in preventing foodborne illness.
