Summary The Japan-US alliance has deepened and developed since the middle of the twentieth century. In the early twenty-first century, however, the security order of the Asia-Pacific region entered an important turning point. With the existing order of the Asia-Pacific alliance in threat, the Japan-US alliance is seen as an "alliance of hope" for peace and prosperity. The authors analyze the state of this alliance and discuss its future direction with respect to maintaining maritime security in the Asia-Pacific region.
