Summary "Few Civil War histories review the intrinsic link between logistics and operations. This Leavenworth Paper examining two major Civil War campaigns in Virginia -- Maj. Gen. George Brinton McClellan's 1862 Peninsula Campaign and Lt. Gen. Ulysses Simpson Grant's 1864 Overland Campaign -- helps to fill this void by providing insights into the critical role logistics played in these campaigns. McClellan and Grant possessed a broad grasp of sustainment and its impact on operational reach. Although these generals differed in their tactical and operational abilities, both recognized the capabilities and limitations of their logistical support and tried to maximize their options"-- Provided by publisher.
