Attack upon circulating libraries, particularly Mudie's, which exercised a form of censorship upon English literature by refusing to circulate books not meeting stiff moral standards. Defense of his Modern lover and Mummer's wife, both critically acclaimed, but refused circulation. Contains passages selected by Moore from 3 books circulated by Mudie's which he considered more risque than the passage from a Mummer's wife which caused the book's refusal. cf. Gilcher, E. A bibl. of George Moore.
