Summary Presents film shorts produced from the 1950s to the 1970s, highlighting various aspects of American commerce -- from soda pop to secretaries to wigs and outboard motors! Partners in Progress charts the promotional strategy of Royal Crown Cola, featuring their newest spokesperson, Art Linkletter, who's happy to hawk America's favorite soda in between discussing "teenage morals, LSD, and the Vietnam War!" In Successful Secretary a talking Mr. Typewriter gives some helpful hints to various secretaries. In Wigging Out actress Tammy Grimes pushes groovy ultra-cool wigs.
Contents Prod. 5118 (1955) -- Partners in progress / Art Linkletter (1966) -- Ski fever (1966) -- Successful secretary -- Wigging out / Tammy Grimes (1971) -- Fashion right summer (1970)
Note Prod. 5118 (1955; color) is another truly bizarre one: a film within a film as Wilding Pictures takes us behind the making of an industrial short -- except that the actors here are totally confused about the film they're making and the parts they're playing. Actually, the point of it all is supposed to be communication, though it's all so wacky and surreal and downright convoluted that you'll probably need to take notes to figure it all out.
Partners in Progress: 1966 (color) charts the promotional strategy of one of America's greatest products: yup, Royal Crown Cola! "The talk of the soft-drink industry," sales are going up, the local bottling plants are buzzing, one-way glass packaging is available, and a big advertising blitz is in the works. And, hey, what are those glamour girls doing in this? Why, RC co-sponsored the 1966 Miss Universe Pageant! Even better, the college market is being cracked by their newest spokesperson, none other than TV-host ART LINKLETTER (People Are Funny) who's happy to hawk America's favorite soda in between discussing "teenage morals, LSD, and the Vietnam war!"
Ski Fever (1966; color) shows all the fun you can have on water skis -- especially if your boat is fitted with Evinrude Outboard Motors!
Successful Secretary (color) goes back to the days before computers, when secretaries toiled all day on a typewriter. Learn about settings and tabs, how to use the error-correction key, and how to type on envelopes.
Wigging Out (1971; color) shows how the Seventies were made hipper by wearing groovy ultra-cool wigs. Actress TAMMY GRIMES narrates this fashion-show for follicles highlighting wild pop-art wigs of blue & white streaks and multi-colored spots "for the young and the exuberant" and the weird.
The Fashion Right Summer (1970; color) offers fashion tips for "typical working women everywhere." Get rid of those white go-go boots, noisy jewelry, and pants suits and, instead, try a safari-shirt dress with fashion-right shoes or cotton-plaid suit.
