The article, to which reply is here made, appeared in the Historical magazine for Jan. 1871 (2d ser., v. 9, p. 52-54) and was written undoubtedly by the editor, Henry B. Dawson. It was mainly a criticism of "Conventions of the inhabitants of the New Hampshire grants in oppositin to the claims of New York," pub. in the society's Collections, v. 1, p. 1-66.
The "Vindication" was reprinted with notes and a letter to the author from H. B. Dawson in the Historical magazine for July 1871, 2d ser., v. 10, p. 49-69.
