Summary |
In 1944 the German Army was on the defensive. The Russian Army was determined to take revenge on Germany and to capture its eastern-frontier territories for reparations. Tells the story of a city that bore the brunt of Russia's vengeance against the Nazi regime at the end of World War II. After weeks of heavy shelling and the deaths of 60,000 Russian and 50,000 German soldiers, the city finally surrendered on the 9th of April, 1945, leaving the city's surviving civilians to risk crossing the frozen Baltic Sea or face the rampaging Russian soldiers. |
