Summary The story of George Bolds is related to writer James D. Horan in a sequence of amusing anecdotes dealing with Bolds' life and adventures as a young man--first in Indiana--which he soon fled for the excitements offered by Dodge City, Kansas. The close of the nineteenth century is full of characters, and Mr. Bolds was lucky enough to encounter of them personally, including the Masterson brothers, Wyatt Earp, and Bill Tilghman. For a 'green kid' there was plenty to do and see around Dodge City, Ingalls, Abilene, Mobeetie, and Cimarron when those cow towns were booming. With descriptions of gun fights between drunken cowboys in saloons, battles between Kansas towns over the location of the county seat, and accounts of hardships and the grubby existence of people on the frontier, George Bolds acquits himself well--primarily with his sense of humor, and by not exaggerating his own importance in these adventurous tales.
