Summary	Throughout Latin America - warns Gunther Dietz - national educational systems carry an important historical debt with the indigenous peoples and their youth. A quick assessment of the responses to the demands for a specific education results in an education of low quality, decontextualized, and culturally and linguistically impertinent and alienating, especially in higher education. In Mexico, where this problem is becoming more acute, the Undersecretary of Higher Education Luciano Concheiro described the situation as "brutal inequality": only 1.2% of young people who speak a language native to Mexico manage to enter higher education.
