Summary
The legal status of residency illegality is a societal construct, but also a subjectively experienced and individually embodied reality. However, the voices of people experiencing illegal residency are often appropriated in various ways. Helena Grebner examines the shared space of the narrative situation of those affected, where they tell their own stories and thoughts about life without legal residency status. She demonstrates that within individual experiences, both dominant narratives and orders as well as resistance against these are reflected, unfolding performatively in various nuances.
