Summary
This report updates and expands [the 2009] analysis with data from the 2010 Census, the 2006-2010 American Community Survey (ACS), and an updated list of stores from 2010. The analysis in this report is important because the past decade has seen substantial changes in population characteristics such as an aging population, migration and immigration, and wide swings in the economic well-being of families amid a 3-year recession. The development and placement of food retail stores of all types have responded to market, population, and economic conditions. Our analysis estimates supermarket access for the overall population and for those without vehicles, both in low-income and moderate/high-income areas.
