Humans and animals become infected, cullings seem inevitable, and industrial routines break down: The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the scandalous working conditions and global interconnections in the context of animal husbandry and the food industry. The authors explore the public discourse and the consequences that have been drawn from this issue so far. They examine the discussions in the news and social media and illustrate the interconnections between human and non-human species through the controversies surrounding pigs and mink. It becomes clear that the future of the planet depends on fostering cross-species care.
