Novelist, poet, Life magazine photographer, composer, Hollywood movie director Gordon Parks has filled all these roles--and done them so well that in August of 1988 in a ceremony at the White House, Mr. Parks was presented with the National Medal of Arts by then President Ronald Reagan.
