Schlanger Park was named after a Hungarian Jewish immigrant who arrived upon the Pittsburg scene in 1897 at the age of 32 to establish the Globe Clothing Store located at 4th and Broadway, the site now occupied by KG&E. Some 16 years earlier he had arrived in New York, friendless and penniless.
