Summary |
This report documents the actions taken by transportation agencies in response to catastrophic events as an overall effort to examine the impacts of different types of events on transportation system facilities and services. The findings and conclusions documented in this report are a result of the creation of a detailed chronology of events, a literature search, and interviews of key personnel involved in transportation operations decision-making for four events: [1] New York City, September 11, 2001, terrorist attack ; [2] Washington, D.C., September 11, 2001, terrorist attack ; [3] Baltimore, Maryland, July 18, 2001, rail tunnel fire ; [4] Northridge, California, January 17, 1994, earthquake. |
