That was definitely the case in the lynching of Albert Evans for rape in Mulberry, next to the Missouri line in Crawford County, on April 19, 1920. The fact that Evans was black evokes the question of whether the lynching was reacially inspired. Of the 206 men lynched, 37 were black, or about 18 percent.
