Summary |
"Award-winning author Irene Bennett Brown concludes the Nickel Hill series with the captivating One True Deed. In 1907, Nila and John's wedding at Nickel Hill Ranch is disrupted when a stranger claims that the ranch isn't legally theirs. The stranger identifies himself as Lafayette Hanley and insists he's in line for the ranch. However, Jocelyn and Pete's lawyer assures them that their deed is legal. It later turns out that "Lafayette Hanley" is actually Dillard Scott, whose parents were the previous owners of Nickel Hill Ranch. Dillard and his brothers commit acts of revenge on the ranch, including kidnapping the Pladson's son, Andy. The Scotts are jailed for other crimes, but are eventually freed due to lack of evidence. While the Pladsons are away at a ranch show, the Scott brothers attempt to take over the ranch. A bloody fight ensues with the ranch hands, resulting in the Scotts being imprisoned for their crimes. Meanwhile, Nila and John return home, expecting a baby"-- Provided by publisher. |
