The narrator is Wayne Saddler, a former deputy marshall hired to accompany a professor and his daughter on an archeological expedition to the mountains of Oklahoma. The purpose of the dig is to prove Vikings not only sailed to America, but went inland, and that draws the attention of outlaws, figuring that if there are Viking relics, there must be treasure.
