Summary Employer sponsored health insurance for current workers is one of the primary sources of health coverage in the United States. According to data from the 2000 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Insurance Component (MEPS-IC), approximately 97 million of the 104 million full-time employees from the private sector and state and local governments worked in establishments where the employer offered health insurance. Furthermore, 73 million of these employees were enrolled in a health insurance plan offered through their place of work.
