Summary |
The U.S. Navy Arctic Roadmap establishes and defines the service's interests in operating effectively in the Arctic Ocean region. It provides a chronological list of Navy action items, objectives, and desired effects for the Arctic region from Fiscal Years 2010 through 2014. It addresses strategy, policy, missions and plans; operations and training; investments in weapons, platforms, sensors, command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, installations and facilities; strategic communications and outreach; and environmental assessment and prediction. The Navy's desired objectives are to develop strong cooperative partnerships with interagency and international Arctic stakeholders; actively and competently contribute to safety, security and stability in the Arctic; acquire the right capability at the right cost and right time to meet requirements in the region; and understand when significant access for Arctic shipping and other maritime activity is likely to develop as a result of climate changes and other factors. |
